It’s that time of year again! The leaves are changing, temperatures are dropping, and we’re all diving back into the intense family and legal drama Kramer vs. Kramer. Between stellar performances from both Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep and the deep themes of work-life balance and gender roles, the film is endlessly rewatchable. And many Kramerphiles are finding new ways to enjoy the classic, including pairing it with powerful psychedelic drugs. If you’re looking to kick things up a notch, here’s a handy list of the best psychotropic drugs to take while watching.

Act One: LSD

As the film begins, we meet Ted (Hoffman), a workaholic account executive who just got a promotion. Excited to tell his son, Billy, and his wife, Joanna (Streep), Ted is met with awful news: Joanna is leaving him. You’re gonna want to take a hit of LSD one-and-a-half to two hours before watching this part. That way you’re peaking by the time the opening credits roll, and in the right frame of mind to immerse yourself in this sad, domestic world. LSD pros note that it gives a “clean” high, so you won’t have any issue following the plot as it comes at you. Instead, you’ll get to enjoy each and every eyebrow hair on Dustin’s forehead.

Act Two: DMT

This is when things get really bad for the Kramers. Ted befriends another single parent, Margaret, who was actually the person who encouraged Joanna to leave in the first place. While they’re at the park, Billy injures his face and has to go to the hospital. Later on, Joanna comes back to town and a custody battle ensues. It’s all super emotional, but clear that Ted and Joanna want what’s best for their son. Since this part is so heavy, you might want to escape with a chill hit on a DMT pen.

You can purchase them at Bassnectar festivals or Burning Man decompressions. Even the smallest hit will instantly transport you to a world of magnificent shapes and colors. This will give you a nice vacation from the film’s current emotional turmoil.

Act Three: Marijuana

The DMT has faded and Billy is about to go live with his mom. SPOILER ALERT: Joanna won the custody battle. So as you watch the ending, I recommend pairing the climax with a low key indica joint. This will chill you out and put you in a good place for the reveal that Joanna will let Billy live with Ted. That’s where he belongs. And you belong on the couch, ‘cause you’ve had an emotional night.

Full disclosure: I just took my own pairing recs, and what if we don’t all see colors in the same way?! What does your Red look like? Let us know.
