Stubborn Fan Still Chants ‘ECW!’ At Shows

Gen-Z wrestling fans don’t know what to make of longtime fan and frequent wrestling-show attendee Raymond Gordon. For some reason, Gordon is compelled to chant a specific sequence of letters: An “E,” a “C,” and finally, a “W” at various matches. Gordon reportedly chants the three letters multiple times sequentially whenever there is a chairshot, someone goes through a table, or whenever a wrestler bleeds.

“He seemed frustrated that no one else was chanting alongside him,” says 19-year-old fan Justin Wilkins. “When Seth Rollins got busted open he just kept chanting. Then he tried to get me to do it, but it just seemed rude. Seth was really hurt.”

“I was at a SmackDown taping and the guy was next to me getting red in the face chanting those letters when Daniel Bryan got chokeslammed through a table,” said college student Kristy Brinks. “He was like, ‘Come on, this is just like when 911 chokeslammed people!’ I explained to him that 9-1-1 is an emergency number and he just got madder.”

An Extreme Generation Gap

“I thought he started a new chant when Io Shirai struck Candice LeRae with a kendo stick, because after getting hit it would be an ‘Easy W’—you know, like, an easy win,” said teenage fan Brian Newbert. “But he just barked at me about how Shirai using a ‘Singapore cane’ was extreme. I thought that was culturally insensitive, because Shirai is Japanese.”

Gordon’s bizarre behavior isn’t just puzzling fans, but wrestlers as well. “I have no idea what he’s doing,” said 23-year-old wrestler Velveteen Dream. “Maybe he’s just chanting ‘NXT’ wrong?”

“I vaguely remember reading about an alliance or something, but that happened in 2001. Is it about that?” asked NXT UK competitor Rhea Ripley. “I can’t say for sure. I was only five-years-old back then.”

“Come on, E-C-W!” screamed Gordon at us during an interview. “You know, Raven, Tommy Dreamer, Candido?! I’m not that old.” The 46-year-old has since refused to return our calls.
