Are you a big bad lady boss? A bossy McBoss? The CEO of No, She Didn’t? If so, you’re probably familiar with our Color of the Month: The not-quite-ash, not-quite-mauve, slightly gray color under your eyes.
This month, we celebrate this truly layered, mysterious, and captivating color. Despite its bad reputation, it certainly gets people talking about you. To your face, they say sexy and passive-aggressive things like, “Wow, rough night?” or “You look like you could use a cup of coffee.” Meanwhile, behind your back, you may overhear compliments like, “How did she possibly get that tired? That isn’t even a bag. It’s a whole new thing.” There’s nothing like a big patch of gray skin to make you the talk of the office.
Status Symbol
The good news is gray is a neutral tone, which means it goes with everything—like, say, your volunteer work, your new position on the board, and the cookies you baked from scratch for the school bake sale because if you didn’t everyone would know, and you’d somehow be deemed a failure even though you’re stretched so, so thin and have only slept 20 hours in the past three days. In many ways, that under-gray is the status symbol of our day.
Maturity
And this particular gray isn’t just the run-of-the-mill bags under your eyes you got from all-nighters in college. Our color of the month celebrates a more mature woman, one who asks herself things like, “Is it normal for skin to be gray if you aren’t dying?” and “Am I dying?” and “Do I want to die?”
