Apple just unveiled its latest line of computers—namely, the newer, better, faster Macbook and Macbook Pro. Both would certainly make a lovely and extravagant gift this holiday season, but you don’t need ’em, because there’s only one “Mac Book” fit to wrap in pretty paper and place under a tree this Christmas: A.L. Singer’s novelization of Home Alone 2, starring a young Macaulay Culkin!
The novelization of Home Alone 2 is like the film Home Alone 2, but in the form of a book. Through her evocative, masterful use of language, Singer tells the exact same story as presented in the second-highest-grossing film of 1992. That’s right—the exploits of Kevin McAllister after he gets separated from his family yet again, this time in New York City.
[irp]This is the rare book that you can judge by its cover, because that’s a pretty great picture of the star of Home Alone 2, Macaulay Culkin. He’s all “Uh-oh! Here we go again!” (Note: Macaulay Culkin is not in the book; the character he played in Home Alone 2 is the central protagonist of the novelization of Home Alone 2.) Can some computer give you any of that? No, it cannot.
To be honest, as far as the film version of Home Alone 2 is concerned, I can take it or leave it. It’s fine—a perfectly serviceable family comedy—but the moving images and crisp sounds of the movie truly come alive when they’ve been rendered in text on a page. It’s actually my favorite book of all time, outranking even To Kill a Mockingbird and the novelization of the 1994 Alec Baldwin vehicle The Shadow.
If you want to get a novelization of Home Alone 2 in time for Christmas, act fast. It sells for less than $2 at garage sales and online used book vendors, the only places novelizations of ’90s movies are sold.
