Remember These ’90s Nick Shows? Your Much Younger Boyfriend Doesn’t
Nickelodeon is basically synonymous with the Golden-Age of television for us ’90s kids. You’ll literally never forget all the gems you watched on a literal daily basis. However, your much younger boyfriend won’t remember any of them. Not a single one. Those 11 years make a huge difference in terms of your cultural references and formative experiences, and that’s just a fact. So take a trip down memory lane with this list of the following iconic ’90s Nickelodeon shows. Maybe try to explain a few of the premises to your boyfriend, too.
1. Ren & Stimpy
You got in so much trouble for quoting Ren & Stimpy on the playground as a kid! Who could forget this animated treasure? Your boyfriend, apparently, who was born the year the show went off the air. Well, to be fair, he can’t really forget something he never knew existed in the first place.
2. Clarissa Explains It All
This is a tough one. How do you explain that Melissa Joan Hart used to be on a Nick show that every kid watched now that she’s in that Netflix show with Sean Astin that literally nobody wants to watch? Very slowly and with YouTube visuals, that’s how. In fact, now it’s like you’re Clarissa! But instead of explaining it all to a TV audience, you’re explaining it to a 22-year-old male model who you also happen to be schtupping.
3. Kenan & Kel
When you watched Kenan & Kel as a kid, you had no idea that Kenan Thompson would grow up to be the longest-running cast member in SNL history. That’s super cool, and definitely something you should explain to your much younger boyfriend (even if he won’t really get it until he’s older). You’ll also have to explain that, no, you don’t know what happened to Kel.
4. All That
All That might be the one ’90s Nick show your boyfriend actually knows. But don’t be fooled. He’s familiar with the reboot—and only the reboot. Yes, he knows there has to be an original show in order for a reboot to exist, but no, he doesn’t know what the original show is in this case (even though All That is clearly a reboot of All That and that part should be obvious). You know what? Doesn’t matter. He doesn’t need to talk.
5. The 6:00 News
Okay, this one technically isn’t a ’90s Nick show, but remember when people just used to sit down and find out what was going on in the world once a day, before the 24-hour news cycle and constant information overload via the internet? Your boyfriend likely can’t even fathom it. He got his first cell phone in third grade and has never seen a pager. But we’re sure he’s, like, totally an old soul and stuff.
