Celebrity Advice: Quotes to Live By

Though they may or may not be “just like us,” one thing about celebrities is clear: Their lives are awesome and ours aren’t. Logically, they must have some mystical key to an awesome life beyond good bone structure and luck, right? The answer is yes and this is why we all crave celebrity advice. After all, that’s why you’re here, isn’t it? We tracked down today’s hottest stars and asked them about the one piece of life advice they would give to our readers, and here’s what they said. Their answers might surprise you!

“I really don’t have time for this.” –Meryl Streep

Meryl makes a great point: Never underestimate the value of your time! Sure, you might not make $20 million a movie, but that doesn’t mean you can’t PSO it (pay someone off) every once in a while. Whether it’s a tedious task that you could hand off to your inferiors or a crisp hundy to a lifestyle blogger if she’ll leave you alone, the time you save may be worth more than the money.

“Please get out of my way.” –Emma Stone

That’s right: Don’t let anyone stand in your way! Do you think Emma clawed her way to two Oscar nominations by letting people walk all over her (or in this case, in front of her)? Hell no. She keeps her eye on the prize and glides right past the haters, or at least nicely asks them to move. Also, a little politeness goes a long way — one-hundred dollars long, Meryl.

“How did you get in here?” –Idris Elba

Indeed, “How did you get in here?” is probably a sentiment heard all too often by an older actor of color. Imposter syndrome can be a real hindrance to success, so it’s important to tell yourself that you deserve to be where you are, even if the homeowner feels differently. Just banish those comments from your mind like Mr. Elba banished us from his house, because no matter who you are, hard work and perseverance always pay off!

“I’m calling the police.” — Jennifer Lawrence

Wikimedia commons lawrenceMake like J-Law and don’t be afraid to ask for help! You don’t have to be a celebrity to be overwhelmed, although it does probably increase the incidence of dealing with stalkers. But whether you need to file a restraining order or just balance career and family, admitting that you can’t do it all on your own is the first step to getting some much-needed support. Also, you don’t always have to be the boss. Deferring to a higher authority can be great for stress relief, especially if you find a lifestyle blogger hiding in your shower.

Unfortunately, we had to stop there, because none of our celebrity gurus offered any legal advice. Stay tuned for next time, when we share lifestyle tips from our esteemed team of lawyers, who have advised us to remain silent at this time.

  1. Meryl Streep actually does have a similar quote attributed to her, “I no longer have patience for things that displease me”, and it goes on and on. Of course, she never said that, it was said by a Portuguese self-help guru. Funny how people were so ready to attribute such a self-centered diatribe to her, as if it sounded virtuous coming from her.
